I started this blog as an adjunct to my firm web site (www.srchk.com) and articles (published here and elsewhere) so that I could comment on the issues of Professional Service Firm (PSF) marketing and management (as well as marketing in general) and SME strategy and marketing in a more informal and opinionated manner than one is allowed in a more formal corporate setting.
In my more than 15 years in the marketing industry (and nearly 10 years working with PSF) I have seen more than my fair share of comment and advice. Some of which is good, and of course some bad. You see, I am extremely passionate about the ideas of strategy and marketing, and in particular how firms can improve their effectiveness and performance through accepting the ideas of the marketing concept. Sometimes I get a little frustrated with the word ‘marketing’ due to the often negative and misunderstood connotations associated with it. Too many people in Hong Kong and Asia call themselves marketing consultants when really all they are is a promotional agency. Unfortunately, too many people consider marketing to be mainly about promotion and ignore the strategic side of marketing which, in my opinion, is where the action is, at least the action that has the power to change firm performance.
So in summary, this blog will have my rants and raves about marketing practice, mainly in the professional services sector, but also in the general domain of business both from my own experiences and what is written or spoken about in the popular media.
Please feel free to comment on anything posted here (a contrarian’s view is always welcome) and you may contact me on bob@srchk.com.
