I am based in Hong Kong and work throughout Asia and elsewhere as the managing director of SRC Associates, a strategy and marketing consultancy that works with professional service firms on improving their competitiveness.
Having been in Hong Kong since the end of 1995, I have become very familiar with the Asian business environment and culture, and how this impacts a firm’s strategy and marketing initiatives. During that time I have been amazed at the resilience of Hong Kong and the business environment during difficult times such as SARS and the GFC. At times I have marveled at the innovative and ground breaking initiatives of companies in many sectors and at other times almost cried at the inept management of even the largest and most well known corporations.
As a consultant, I have worked with upwards of 100 firms on their strategy and marketing issues, not only in Hong Kong, but as far a field as the UK, Singapore, China, Vietnam, and numerous other places in Asia. I have also helped firms from Europe and North America access the Asian markets.
Aside from consulting, I spend a significant amount of time delivering workshops, seminars, and talks on the competitiveness of professional services firms. I also write quite extensively and my work has been published in numerous journals and business publications such as Hong Kong Lawyer, HK Accountant, Singapore Law Gazette, HK Economic Times, Business Times, Asian Counsel, The Lawyer (UK), Managing Partner (UK), Lawyers Weekly (Aus), and Law Dragon (US), among many others.
I studied in the UK and have a bachelors degree in management from Brunel University in London and an MBA from the University of Lincoln. I am, or have been, a member of the Chartered Institute of Marketing in the UK, the American Marketing Association, and the Society of Marketing Professional Services (US). I also participate in the Asian Professional Services Marketing Association since they now have a chapter in Hong Kong.
Aside from my family, my biggest achievement in life was the publication of my first (and hopefully not last) book, Marketing Professional Services in Asia (Lexis Nexis 2009). A stressful but thoroughly rewarding journey that I am embarking on again with a new title for the Ark Group on the Asian legal market.
